Mirror Me

A simple Mini Hoopers partner game where players mirror each other’s movements, building balance, footwork, and early defensive awareness.

How it Works

Pair players up and have them face each other with a small amount of space between them. One player becomes the Leader and moves side to side, forward, backward, or in small shuffles while the partner mirrors every step. Keep the movements simple at first, then gradually increase speed. This focus on staying balanced and alert is similar to the movement awareness used in Buddy Tag. Encourage players to keep eyes up and react quickly, much like they do in Hand Signal Dribbling. Add playful role switching between rounds to keep engagement high, just as you do in Castle Protectors.

Progression Or Variation

  • Shorten or widen the space between partners
  • Add a ball for the Leader to dribble
  • Introduce time limits for mirroring
  • Use only sideways or backward movements
  • Switch roles after short bursts

Coaching Points

  • Encourage controlled footwork
  • Keep eyes on the Leader
  • Stay low with balanced posture
  • React without rushing
  • Praise teamwork and focus

Why This Drill Works

Mirror Me teaches Mini Hoopers how to move with balance and awareness while reacting to another player. This builds early defensive habits such as staying in front, adjusting angles, and moving with purpose. These skills support the same awareness used in the 2-on-2 basketball keep away drill.
