Construction Site

How it Works

Create a cone pile at center court and assign each team a simple shape they must build. Players shoot from a designated spot, and every make earns one cone they can grab and use toward their structure. Keep the pace high by rotating shooters quickly, similar to the tempo in 5-3-1 Shooting Relay. Encourage communication and quick decisions at the cone pile the same way players navigate space in Tally Ball. Use short rounds or countdowns to drive urgency, much like the competitive feel in Beat The Clock.

Progression Or Variation

  • Increase shot difficulty for older age groups
  • Require a dribble move before each shot
  • Add larger or more complex shapes
  • Run relay-style rounds with rotating shooters
  • Use timed rounds for added pressure

Coaching Points

  • Emphasize balanced footwork on every catch
  • Encourage clear communication when collecting cones
  • Reinforce quick but controlled movement
  • Celebrate teamwork and problem solving
  • Keep transitions fast to maintain energy

Why This Drill Works

Construction Site blends competition, teamwork, and shooting repetition in a fun activation format. Players stay engaged while developing footwork, communication, and decision making under light pressure. These skills support the same quick-reaction habits needed in the 2-on-2 basketball keep away drill.
