3 or Layup

A baseline out-of-bounds play with an elevator screen that frees a cutter for a layup or corner three. Simple and effective.

Breakdown

  • Start with all 4 players across the baseline.
  • On the call, 2 and 3 set a ballside elevator screen (shoulder-to-shoulder) near the block.
  • 4 sprints through the elevator screen, looking for either a quick layup cut or popping out to the corner for a 3.
  • 1 makes the read: if the defense collapses, hit the corner 3; if they chase high, hit the inside cut for a layup.

Coaching Tip

Spacing is critical — make sure the elevator screen is tight and that 4 cuts hard with no hesitation to sell both scoring options.
