Breakdown
- Designed specifically to beat the 1-2-1-1 press.
- 3 and 4 work high to receive the inbound pass from 1.
- 2 (on the ball-entry side) flashes to the middle as 1 streaks up the sideline into the space 2 vacated.
- 3 passes quickly to 2 in the middle, who immediately hits 1 on the sideline.
- 5 cuts on the backside to create a 2v1 or 3v1 fast break.
Important Notes
- The inbounder (1) and middle flasher (2) must be your two best ball handlers.
- If the middle defender covers 1’s sideline cut, 2 should immediately dribble the ball upcourt instead.
Coaching Tip
Timing is everything! 3 must get the ball to 2 in the middle immediately, and 1 must sprint the sideline right after inbounding. When run properly, this breaks the press cleanly and forces defenses to think twice about pressing again.
