Coach-Led Reaction

A simple Mini Hoopers game where players react to the coach’s cues, building focus, quick movement, and early listening skills through playful action.

How it Works

Line players up facing you with plenty of space in front of them. Give each player a simple movement cue such as “go,” “freeze,” “slide,” or “dribble.” Players must react instantly to your signal. Keep cues playful and unpredictable to hold attention, much like the storytelling energy in Construction Site. If players start drifting or crowding, tighten the space just as you would in Hungry Hippos. Celebrate effort and quick reactions between rounds with the same fun tone you use in Wreck It Ralph.

Progression Or Variation

  • Add a ball for basic dribble reactions
  • Use hand signals instead of verbal cues
  • Add a “color call” cue for different movements
  • Change starting stances to challenge balance
  • Use timed rounds for quick bursts of focus

Coaching Points

  • Encourage fast but controlled reactions
  • Keep cues simple and clear
  • Promote listening skills and attention
  • Celebrate effort, not accuracy
  • Reset quickly to maintain engagement

Why This Drill Works

Coach Led Reaction builds listening skills, body control, and quick movement in a playful environment. Mini Hoopers learn to stay alert, respond fast, and move with confidence without feeling pressured. These early reaction skills connect to the same movement exploration used in the 2-on-2 basketball keep away drill.
