Castle Protectors

A playful Mini Hoopers game where players defend a cone castle from incoming “Dragons,” building agility, awareness, and imagination through fun movement challenges.

How it Works

Set up a small “castle” using cones or flat markers. One player or small group becomes the Castle Protectors while the other players are the Dragons trying to sneak in and knock down a cone. Protectors must move their feet, stay alert, and tag Dragons before they reach the castle. Keep rounds short so players stay focused and active. Add simple storytelling, just like you would in Construction Site, to help Mini Hoopers stay engaged. If players start crowding, shrink or reshape the castle boundaries the way you adjust space in Hungry Hippos. Between rounds, celebrate effort with the same playful energy found in Wreck It Ralph.

Progression Or Variation

  • Add a ball for Dragons to dribble while attacking
  • Change the size or shape of the castle
  • Add two Protectors instead of one
  • Require Dragons to use certain movements (slides, skips)
  • Use timed rounds with rotating roles

Coaching Points

  • Encourage light, quick feet for Protectors
  • Remind Dragons to stay controlled, not reckless
  • Reinforce spatial awareness inside the castle
  • Celebrate teamwork and imagination
  • Keep transitions fast between rounds

Why This Drill Works

Castle Protectors builds agility, awareness, and imagination through playful movement. Mini Hoopers learn to react, navigate boundaries, and control their bodies in a low pressure, story driven environment. These early coordination skills support everything they’ll learn later, including the decision making found in the 2-on-2 basketball keep away drill.
