Bulldozers vs Builders

How it Works

Set up a grid of cones across a marked space, then split players into two teams. Bulldozers move around knocking cones down while Builders work to stand them back up. Keep rounds short so effort stays high and players stay active. Treat each round like a race, with the same urgency you build in 5-3-1 Shooting Relay. Encourage constant scanning and communication, similar to the awareness players need in Tally Ball. If the energy drops, use a quick countdown to finish the round strong, just like the pace boost you get in Beat The Clock. Rotate roles each round to keep everyone moving.

Progression Or Variation

  • Add dribbling for both teams
  • Require Builders to use only one hand to reset cones
  • Add zones where certain cones are worth bonus points
  • Change distance or size of the grid
  • Introduce a timed “power round” for Bulldozers or Builders

Coaching Points

  • Encourage constant movement and scanning
  • Reinforce controlled contact with cones
  • Celebrate hustle and teamwork
  • Keep rounds short to maintain focus
  • Remind players to move with purpose, not chaos

Why This Drill Works

Bulldozers vs Builders teaches players to react quickly, stay aware of their surroundings, and compete with purpose. The constant movement builds agility and decision making in a fun, low pressure environment. These habits align with the concepts emphasized in the 2-on-2 basketball keep away drill.
